Yesterday (Sunday) I did a workshop with Lessa Siegele OAM from South Australia. Bay Quilters had invited Lessa to give a talk at our Saturday monthly meeting and teach a paper piecing workshop on the Sunday. Paper piecing has always been a technique I avoided but after yesterday it is now a technique I will use more in my quilts.
Here are a couple of photos of the work I did yesterday.
Stitching the pieces on the paper
adding the curved pieces
The finished blocks. Don't know what happened to this photo as it turned while uploading.
As you can see I have not used my usual colour purple. I will use these blocks and more to make cushions for our caravan. Julie one the other ladies at the workshop who always uses blue had chosen purple for her fabric.

Fran, I do so love your (what I know as New York Beauty) blocks. I am looking forward to seeing them when they are finished. You will find that once you have done a couple that the technique with paper piecing is actually quite simple. (This block is one of my favourites.) The trick to my way of thinking is making sure that you cut the fabric for the points large enough. Do tell the Scquilters' group when you have done more. I will have to keep on checking back in with your blog now!

Loving the NY Beauty blocks! Thanks so much for taking the time to share.
It is amazing how simple paper pieceing is - once you wrap your brain around it. I never understood it until I saw Carol Doak demonstrating online - she really is the queen of the technique. If you are looking for more ideas, check her out - she really is amazing.
Your paper piecing is great. I have made a few quilt doing paper piecing. They always come out great. Nice to meet you I am on Esther's yahoo list.
